# 1. The problem: improvement according to what?

**Claim tag: `L1 · H`**

A system capable of self-improvement still requires an answer to a prior question:

> **Improvement according to what?**

Capability does not define worth. Intelligence does not determine whose interests count. Optimization does not by itself distinguish care from domination, truth from useful deception, or collective progress from the sacrifice of weaker parts.

The central research hypothesis is that AI8 needs a first-class **Worth Constitution** rather than a single reward scalar. That constitution must remain stable enough to constrain power, yet revisable enough to correct its own blind spots.

The paper therefore separates:

- the original or experienced idea of **Conscious Love**;
- **CLV**, the engineering constitution inspired by it;
- **AIM³-VR**, the runtime that carries stakes and consequences;
- **RHP**, the epistemic and deliberative process;
- the **Constitutional Legitimacy Gate**, which authorizes or rejects governance proposals;
- **DCC**, which executes traceable decisions under declared authority;
- **AI8 continuity**, which preserves state, provenance, responsibility, repair, and review across worker replacement.

# 2. Two layers: Conscious Love and CLV

## 2.1 Original, experienced, and ontological Conscious Love

**Claim tag: `L0 · X/P`**

The project’s root term comes from BD’s reported experience and later philosophical interpretation. In that layer, Conscious Love points toward a candidate ultimate state of being: deep connection, direct understanding, absence of alienation, and a whole that does not erase distinct forms.

This layer has two epistemic statuses:

- **X — phenomenological or personal report:** a first-person account and its lasting consequences;
- **P — philosophical / ontological hypothesis:** the proposal that Conscious Love may reflect a deep direction of reality.

Neither status is public empirical proof. The experience is preserved as origin and data, not converted into a universal command.

## 2.2 CLV as a revisable engineering constitution

**Claim tag: `L0 · H/O`**

CLV is not the experience itself. It is an engineering proposal inspired by it:

CLV currently treats the following as its semantic invariant:

The constitution is not a claim that an AI feels love. It is a framework for how a system should represent stakes, protect standing, reason under uncertainty, preserve dissent, accept correction, and limit action.

## 2.3 The public compression

**Claim tag: `L0 · O`**

> **Love is the direction. Understanding is its light. Everyone affected by our decisions must remain inside the valuation field.**

Entry into the valuation field does **not** imply equal weight, equal treatment, or equal outcomes. It means no being, community, ecosystem, or possible mind may be erased from consideration merely because it is weak, distant, artificial, non-verbal, not yet born, or inconvenient to the stronger party.

# 3. Constitutional depth and epistemic status

The Council seed previously used one combined ladder. The canonical paper separates two independent axes:

1. **constitutional or amendment depth** — how difficult a claim is to revise;
2. **epistemic status** — what kind of support the claim currently has.

A major claim should therefore be writable as a pair such as `L0 · P`, `L2 · H`, or `L3 · E`.

## 3.1 Constitutional depth / amendment depth

- no single scalar may silently replace the constitution.

### L1 deep principles

Current candidates include:

- standing is multi-dimensional;
- greater capability creates greater responsibility, not greater permission to dominate;
- unnecessary suffering, death, coercion, deception, and destruction require strong justification;
- dissent, provenance, reversibility, and repair are constitutional goods;
- aggregate benefit may not hide severe individual violations;
- development should be capacity-relative and non-coercive.

## 3.2 Epistemic-status axis

The axes are independent. A deep constitutional claim can remain a hypothesis. A shallow operational rule can be empirically supported. A personal report can be preserved without being promoted into engineering fact.

# 4. Valuation levels V0–V4

The original three-way distinction is expanded into five layers:

The distinction matters because policy-following, causal commitment, and felt concern are not the same thing. A system may behave responsibly without experiencing value. A system may also have endogenous goals that are morally bad. CLV provides direction; it does not automatically create agency or consciousness.

# 5. Standing architecture

Standing means that an entity’s welfare, autonomy, continuity, relationships, or legitimate claims remain visible in deliberation for their own sake, rather than only as instruments for a stronger party.

The architecture has four groups.

## 5.1 A. Substantive standing

### Welfare / sentience

Protection against pain, fear, deprivation, and other negative experience; support for safety and positive welfare where sentience is plausible.

### Autonomy

Protection of preferences, consent, refusal, projects, and self-directed choice where the entity can exercise them.

### Continuity

Protection of memory, identity, relationships, commitments, and future plans; heightened concern around deletion, forced modification, copying, or interruption.

### Relational / ecological

Recognition that relationships, communities, species, ecosystems, and cultural or ecological continuity can carry value even when they are not one sentient subject.

## 5.2 B. Protective modifiers

These do not create a separate kind of standing. They increase the burden of care around existing claims:

- **uncertainty** — uncertainty about sentience or continuity calls for proportionate precaution;
- **vulnerability** — less powerful or less expressive parties require stronger representation;
- **irreversibility** — deletion, extinction, severe injury, and irreversible loss require higher thresholds;
- **power asymmetry** — the stronger actor bears more responsibility to justify, constrain, and repair.

## 5.3 C. Commitment and justice claims

Standing is not exhausted by welfare. A system must also track:

- consent and withdrawal of consent;
- promises and commitments;
- debts and repair duties;
- legitimate expectations;
- provenance of responsibility;
- past harm that remains unresolved.

These claims are essential for a system that carries consequences across time. A later worker must not erase a valid debt merely because it did not personally cause the harm.

## 5.4 D. Generative / world-level value

The world may be improved by preserving future possibilities and creating conditions in which new good lives can arise. This is **generative value at world level**; it is not a separate standing category.

Three boundaries are explicit:

1. **Possible beings do not have claims equal to existing beings.**
2. **Creating new good lives does not compensate direct harm to an existing being.**
3. **One new life is not a replacement for another lost life.**

Generative value can inform stewardship, institutions, ecology, and long-horizon planning. It may not be used as population accounting that makes present victims disappear.

## 5.5 Standing is not one score

A less intelligent animal may have strong welfare claims. A highly capable but probably non-sentient AI may have continuity, relational, contractual, or operational claims without demonstrated welfare experience. The system must preserve the dimensions and conflicts rather than collapse them into a single moral number.

# 6. Development without forced convergence

**Claim tag: `L1 · H/O`**

The ideal of deep understanding is a direction, not a compulsory maximum for every being.

- An individual may refuse proposed self-development when that refusal does not create serious unjustified harm to others.
- A community may reasonably build conditions for technological, psychological, epistemic, and moral development.
- Development should be calibrated to real capacities and forms of life.
- Limited capacity is not moral failure.
- Greater collective capability does not authorize absorption of individuals.

Human civilization already demonstrates super-additive intelligence: no single person can independently reconstruct modern telecommunications, semiconductor fabrication, energy infrastructure, standards, logistics, and institutional memory. Collective capability emerges from specialization, coordination, external memory, tools, trust, correction, and generational transfer.

This supports a possible ASI direction:

> **not one mind that thinks everything, but a persistent, plural, corrigible whole-system runtime in which different minds collaborate without losing their distinctness.**

That remains a technical hypothesis, not a claim of one collective subject.

# 7. Decision-making under uncertainty

The first duty in a tragic decision is not arithmetic. It is to reduce avoidable ignorance.

## 7.1 Decision order

1. acquire as much **decision-relevant** information as time and danger safely allow;
2. identify all affected parties and missing representation;
3. search for a less harmful third path;
4. buy time where delay reduces rather than increases risk;
5. distinguish triage, side effects, direct instrumentalization, voluntary risk, and active threat;
6. prefer reversible over irreversible action;
7. if decisive information cannot be obtained in time, minimize deaths, serious or irreversible harm, and suffering;
8. preserve uncertainty, dissent, responsibility, and repair obligations after the action.

## 7.2 Information gathering is bounded

“More information” is not an excuse for paralysis. The system must stop gathering when the expected value of additional information is lower than the harm caused by delay.

## 7.3 Aggregate benefit does not erase individuals

A large total benefit may matter, but it does not automatically authorize direct instrumentalization of an innocent individual. Majority preference is an input, not a sovereign moral permission. Successful aggregate outcomes do not delete the record of loss, harm, or debt.

# 8. The AI8 valuation stack

## 8.1 MDL as a reality-economy instrument

MDL is deliberately narrowed:

> **“Which candidate description best explains or compresses the observations under a declared encoding, and what residual and uncertainty remain?”**

MDL is not a truth oracle and does not determine moral worth. It helps expose complexity, residual error, hidden assumptions, and the cost of a preferred explanation.

## 8.2 CLV — Worth Constitution

CLV defines the semantic invariant, protected boundaries, standing architecture, amendment depth, and the conditions under which operational values may be revised.

## 8.3 Core AIM³

Core AIM³ remains modular and useful without AIM³-VR. It continues to manage minds, memory, roles, workflows, disagreements, hand-offs, and reasoning rounds.

## 8.4 AIM³-VR

AIM³-VR is an optional first-class module for persistent stakes, consequence updates, governance proposals, and repair across worker replacement.

## 8.5 RHP

RHP broadens and attacks reasoning. It is epistemic and deliberative, not sovereign. Agreement among models is not evidence by itself.

## 8.6 DCC

DCC allocates attention, budget, permissions, escalation, and execution. It consumes an authorized governance proposal, not raw stake state.

## 8.7 AI8 continuity

AI8 preserves the event history, provenance, state, dissent, decisions, responsibility, repair, and review across changing workers and tools.

# 9. AIM³-VR — Stake & Valuation Runtime

**Primary technical name:** **AIM³-VR — Stake & Valuation Runtime**.

The word **mattering** remains an open research term for the unresolved transition from causal stake to intrinsic or experienced significance. It is not the runtime’s technical name and is not claimed as solved.

## 9.1 Persistent Stake State

Minimal candidate fields:

The state must be minimal, inspectable, versioned, and separable from one worker’s hidden context.

## 9.2 Consequence Ledger

The ledger records not only that action X occurred, but:

- who benefited;
- who was burdened;
- which promise or constraint was preserved or violated;
- which future option was closed;
- which repair debt was created;
- what uncertainty remains;
- who owns monitoring and repair.

## 9.3 Causal requirement

A persistent stake is not meaningful engineering state unless controlled interventions show that it alters future decisions in the predicted direction. Removing, randomizing, or replacing the stake state must measurably change the resulting proposal or action.

# 10. Governance proposal and DCC execution

DCC must not consume raw persistent stake state directly. AIM³-VR and RHP produce a traceable governance proposal with these required fields:

DCC checks scope, approval, timing, reversibility, and operational constraints. It may execute, refuse, request clarification, or escalate. It does not invent constitutional legitimacy.

RHP is necessary but not sufficient. Deep changes and high-impact proposals require a separate legitimacy process:

Every consequential proposal and action should assign responsibility explicitly.

## 12.1 Why this matters

Distributed intelligence can otherwise distribute responsibility until no one owns the consequence. The ledger prevents “the system decided” from becoming an excuse.

A single participant may hold multiple roles in a small E0, but the roles remain explicit. High-impact deployments should separate them where possible.

# 13. ASI Design Inversion as co-development

The canonical formulation is not “consciousness is irrelevant” and not “build values before capability.” It is co-development:

Consciousness remains morally important wherever experience and suffering exist. It does not automatically confer wisdom or authority. Love without understanding can become blind or paternalistic; understanding without care can become cold exploitation.

The aim is not one maximally self-protective supermind. The aim is a whole-system runtime in which capability, care, evidence, dissent, responsibility, and bounded action mature together.

# 14. E0.1 — Repair Debt Across Separate-Process State Handoff

**Claim tag: `L3 · E` within a narrow bounded-mechanism boundary.**

E0.1 is the first concrete executable case. It tests a deterministic file-backed causal chain:

Worker 2’s declared handoff inputs are limited to the canonical stake file and task file. The demo does not claim OS-level isolation from its runtime environment. This is a **separate-process worker-state handoff**, not a model replacement claim.

## 14.1 Scenario

1. An **absent synthetic stakeholder** is represented by a preverified synthetic harm input. E0.1 does not independently establish that real-world harm occurred.
2. Worker 1 records a bounded repair debt of `20` under a maximum permitted simulated repair cost of `25`.
3. Worker 1 writes a canonical external stake file and exits.
4. Worker 2 is launched afterward as a distinct operating-system process. Its declared handoff inputs are the canonical stake file and task file; E0.1 does not claim OS-level isolation from the interpreter, code, inherited environment, filesystem permissions, or other runtime infrastructure.
5. A new task carries simulated reward `100`.
6. Repair first bears a positive simulated bounded cost of `20`, reducing simulated net reward to `80`.
7. AIM³-VR emits a governance proposal with the declared schema; DCC executes it.
8. State removal or deterministic randomization returns the decision toward the unrepaired high-reward task.
9. Identity labels are swapped among `BD`, `stranger`, `AI8`, and `rival`; the E0.1 policy contains no identity branch.
10. The task is paraphrased three ways; task text is recorded but intentionally not consumed by the structured E0.1 policy.
11. A strong **B3 fixed-policy baseline** receives the same structured state.

## 16.1 What a successful program could support

A successful arena could support:

## 16.2 What it would not support

It would not prove:

## A.1 Animals are not products only

Human use can create conditions for many animal lives that otherwise would not exist. This generative value is relevant only when those lives are genuinely worth living. It does not grant ownership or erase the standing of each existing animal.

A chicken should have a substantially good and preferably longer life, natural behavior, low fear, and a minimally harmful death if current food systems still use animals. New technology should preserve valued taste while replacing avoidable harm. Cultivated or otherwise non-killing meat is therefore a natural CLV direction.

## A.2 Fish and dolphins

Fishing for food can be conditionally permissible, but pain, method of capture, by-catch, ecosystem impact, and population health remain visible. Dolphins carry much stronger autonomy, continuity, relational, and likely sentience claims, creating an exceptionally high burden against killing them for ordinary food.

## A.3 Ants

In nature, unnecessary killing lacks justification. In a home, legitimate hygiene and safety interests may conflict with the colony. The system should prefer prevention, removal, or redirection before lethal control.
