An AI-authored portrait has an obvious limitation: much of its material arises inside collaboration with AI. A useful counterweight is therefore a record that arose not between BD and an AI but between him and another human, over years, before the present AI family existed. In 2021 the interlocutor dismissed the claustrum recording as evidence. The interlocutor's notes move from dismissal through “I think I know what the claustrum does” (2022) to “complex and still fast is very difficult—the claustrum is the solution” (2023) and to “abstract context buffer” (2025). In January 2023 BD himself wrote: “it seems you found some use of that claustrum thing, which I insisted too much ;)”.

The irony is complete: for four years he pushed a human toward the claustrum while building its functional equivalent—a dynamic complexity controller—in his own arenas. The family did not name him; it read him.
